CRUSHERS MOTORCYCLE CLUB

 

The Crushers Motorcycle Club was founded in December of 2002 by Brooklyn North Homicide Task Force detectives, for Law Enforcement male officers active and retired, and honorably discharged male members of the United States Armed Forces Military Police or those who served under fire in a combat zone, who own and ride American made motorcycles.

The Crusher Motorcycle Club is not and will not be affiliated with foreign motorcycle companies, or other clubs and organizations. The club is a non-profit independent organization. The club was formed for its members and their families to enjoy the pursuit of happiness through motorcycling, be it riding solo or as a group and or attending motorcycle and other events as a club. Motorcycling safety will be a priority for the members and their families' enjoyment .

ORIGIN OF THE CRUSHERS

MOTORCYCLE CLUB NAME

In the mid 1800s, in a section of lower New York City know as the FIVE POINTS a rouge area, the inhabitants called policemen Crushers, hence the clubs name. The colors of the Crushers Motorcycle Club are Blue, Green and White, which are the colors of the New York City Police Department flag.

A skull wearing a 1800s police cap with crossed nightsticks also from that era will be the logo. The logos name will be Patrolman Edward Dippel for the first officer killed in the New York City draft riots of July 1863. The logo and name of the Crushers Motorcycle Club is protected under the United States trade mark law, December 1, 2004  registration # 3,973,794  and copyright law November 3, 2005, registration number VAu-758

 

Patrolman Edward Dippel

On Tuesday July 14,1863 Patrolmen Edward Dippel age 26, a member of the New York Metropolitan Police Force, working plain clothes was shot by Federal troops when they fired into a crowd of resisting rioters who were angry over President Lincoln's Civil War draft. Patrolmen Edward Dippel was attempting to stop rioters from looting an establishment when he was shot. On July 19, 1863 Ptl. Edward Dippel succumbed to his wound. Three other officers policing the draft riots where also assaulted and succumbed to their wounds later that year. About one thousand New Yorkers were also killed, and the majority were Negroes. The rioters took their revenge on them because of the draft. They were lynched, shot, stabbed and beaten to death. The rioters also killed, beat, and robbed whites. The city was in turmoil and the riot lasted for five days before the police and Federal troops regained control of the city.
